I don't speak French yet, can I still benefit from French Commute sessions?

French Commute is designed more as a conversational immersion experience than a formal language class, so it may not be the ideal fit for complete beginners. When starting a new language, it can be very helpful to see your teacher’s facial expressions and lip movements, and since I’ll be focused on driving safely, that won’t always be possible during the ride.
That said, every learner is different, and you're absolutely welcome to book a Trial Ride to see if the experience works well for you and your current level!

Do you accept children?

No. French Commute sessions are currently designed for adults only. Transporting children involves additional responsibilities and insurance requirements, so at this time, rides and sessions are not available for minors.

Question 3

Do you go on highways or cross bridges?

Accepted Answer

No. While Colette, my electric Smart car, can handle highway speeds, its smaller size makes highway driving less ideal from a safety perspective when sharing the road with much larger vehicles. For your safety and mine, French Commute operates exclusively within San Francisco city limits, and rides will remain on roads with speed limits of 35 mph or less.

Do you charge for traveling time to your clients?

No. Your session time begins at the scheduled booking time, not while I’m traveling to your pickup location. There are no additional travel fees or hidden charges.

Question 5

What is the ideal schedule to benefit fully from this service?

Accepted Answer

Regularity is key for two reasons. First, your French will naturally improve more with consistent practice, ideally at least once a week. Second, I truly believe that building a relationship over time helps create better conversations and a more personalized experience. It allows me to get to know you, your French level, your interests, and your personality.
The ideal setup would be something like a recurring ride every Tuesday morning on the way to work ; almost like a lesson, a coffee chat… or a therapy session ;)

What if my rides are less than 30 minutes?

Unfortunately, I cannot adjust the pricing for rides that are shorter than 30 minutes. However, even if your actual commute is only 10 or 15 minutes, I’m happy to continue the conversation a little longer so you still receive your full 30 minutes of French practice.

Question 7

What if my commute is already working well for me, but I still want to try the concept?

Accepted Answer

That’s absolutely fine. We don’t necessarily have to use your regular commute. I’d be happy to drive you around the city, take you to some of my favorite bakeries or French-owned shops, or even drive you to a weekend fitness class while we practice your French along the way.

Question 8

Can I book this service for more than 30 minutes?

Accepted Answer

Absolutely. While the standard sessions are 30 minutes long, I’m open to considering longer or more customized bookings whenever my schedule allows.
For example, maybe you’d like me to drive you to your tennis class and wait until it’s over, or perhaps you want to practice French while shopping together at a local market. I’m perfectly happy to create a more flexible experience if it fits both our schedules.

What if I'm late to my session?

There is a 10-minute grace period, and I’ll do my best to contact you to check on your status. If needed, I may be able to wait a little longer, assuming I don’t have another client scheduled afterward. However, additional waiting time may result in an extra charge.

What if Colette and I are late to pick you up?

Accepted Answer

Hopefully this never happens, but if it does, I’ll let you know as soon as possible so you have time to arrange another option and still make it to your destination on time.
Your session will automatically be re-credited to your French Commute account so you can use it for a future booking.

Question 11

Do you accept pets?

Accepted Answer

I would love to say yes, but unfortunately, I don’t. While you will be safely wearing a seat belt, I don’t want to take any risks with your precious companion in the event of an accident or sudden impact.

Question 12

What if I forget my appointment or need to cancel at the last minute?

Accepted Answer

You should receive a reminder before your scheduled session, but we understand that life happens. If you cancel at least 12 hours before your session, your credit will remain fully available on your account.
Unfortunately, cancellations made less than 12 hours before the session will be counted as used.

What if Colette and I forget about our appointment or cancel at the last minute?

I truly hope that never happens! But if it ever does, not only will you not be charged, I’ll also offer you an extra complimentary session… and I’ll show up with a croissant the next time I pick you up ;)

What is the French Commute Club?

Accepted Answer

The French Commute Club is a community of fellow French Commuters who share an interest in the French language and culture. Members will occasionally be invited to participate in special events, either complimentary or offered for a small fee, designed to help you meet other francophiles and experience a little more of French culture beyond the ride itself.
My goal is to collaborate with the local French community to organize unique experiences such as French wine and cheese tastings, Galette des Rois celebrations, our own version of the competition for the best croissant, and more.
The club is available to French Commuters who purchase an 8-session package. Once you do, you’ll automatically be added to the club’s email list.

I'm pretty tall, will I fit in your Smart car?

You might be surprised! Smart cars are actually roomier than most people expect, and they even offer more headroom than some larger sedans.
